Color “Coated”

Yes, yes… I know that’s not how you spell it.  It’s supposed to be ‘color coded’ but I was trying to use a little bit of play on words.  You see, I’m normally a pretty organized person.  Most of the time, if I need something, I can put my finger on it.  But like all other humans, sometimes my organization starts slipping and it’s time for a redo.  The latest culprit – our master closet.

If you’ll remember, before our little guy arrived we threw together a master closet for less than $100 and in just a few short hours.  I never really organized it the way I should have and it’s gotten worse ever since then.  Now that I’m 26 pounds lighter than I was 6 weeks ago, I’m basically back into my regular clothes.  Plus, I’m exclusively nursing the baby and you can’t easily nurse a baby in a dress that you have to pull all the way up to your throat.  I was finding myself with “nothing to wear…”  So, it was PAST time to organize this hot mess.

I started at one end and went to the other.  Speaking of color “coated”, I knew I needed to put all of the long garments at the end.  That would include slacks, dresses, and coats.  That way they wouldn’t hang down on J.C.’s dresser and always be in our way.  So, that’s where I started.  If you compared my clothes to J.C.’s, you’d see a big difference.  I typically wear slacks or dresses/skirts to work and you can find him in a stained t-shirt and blue jeans.  Needless to say, I have a lot of longer items compared to him.

Not only do I like to organize by type of clothing but I also like to make sure that I have the seasons together and that everything is color coded, from white to black with colors in between.  Anal?  Who me?  Never!  🙂

For now, I’m going to keep my jeans stacked on the dresser.  Eventually they are going to have their own little shelves.  Speaking of, I’m sick of my shoes being on the floor (first world problem, I know) so J.C. is also going to put some shelves up opposite all of the clothing.  Then I’ll have room underneath the rod to store things like suitcases and “extras”.

And I’m also going to be on the hunt for some cute baskets to put on that top shelf to store swim suits and scarves/gloves, separately of course.  Because who wears gloves and swimsuits at the same time?!

Well, I know it isn’t a huge transformation or a beautiful makeover, but normally it’s “projects” like these that make life easier.  And I’m all about easy… especially with a new baby.  So, tell me… do you have an organized closet?  Is it organized by color or season?  Or maybe both?  If it’s not so organized, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me come over and whip it into shape for you.  It’s one of my favorite things to do and takes no time at all.  I’d be glad to take any closet from drab to fab!
