OMG!!! Has anybody else been in that nasty winter rut? The one where you don’t want to do anything but hide in bed with some ice cream and veg out on one show after another?! Or is just my hubby and me (and the baby) feeling that way? Please tell me we aren’t the only ones.
I say it’s the winter blues. I get them every year. Winter would have to be my least favorite season of all. First off it’s freezing cold and I truly cannot stand to be cold. I’d rather be sweating. When it starts getting dark outside by the time I get off work, I get so sad. I don’t have any time to do ANYTHING outside after work unless I want to use a flashlight. Then we I go inside, it’s dark outside and I think it’s time to go to bed… when in all actuality it’s only like 5:45. And about the time I get used to the time change, it’s daylight savings again and the days get longer. Geez… Here’s to hoping that this winter funk is gone QUICK… cuz this chick needs to get some work done if she’s going to conquer her January Hopes.
I don’t have any juicy pictures of our house today. Want to know why? Because during the day, when the sun is shining and there’s a little natural light flowing into the house (which is best for pictures), I’m at work. Then when I get home, it’s dark outside and trying to take decent pictures is out of the question. Yes, we’ve gotten some work done but I need a sunny Saturday to take pics so I can show you the progress.
In the meantime, I wanted to tell you guys where I get some of my inspiration. Not only do these ladies inspire my creatively, but they also inspired me to start this blog. By the way, it’s almost been a year since I started this blog. Can you believe that? Time sure does fly. Anyways, I’m going to share my top 6 favorite blogs, a little bit about each of them, and how they inspire me. P.S. I’m not going in any particular order. Also, for more info or a link to their blog, click on the name of the blog highlighted in bold text.
Yeah, she’s pretty awesome. She’s Miss Mustard Seed and her real name is Marian. She started her a blog a while ago and has become very well-known. She’s created a wonderful business for her and her family. She also has her own milk paint line and wrote a book! I like her for many reasons. One is that she came from humble beginnings (as in her blog) and always keeps that in mind. She probably makes enough money now to buy everything brand new and expensive, but she doesn’t. I like that!
I also love her home. It’s very calming, soothing, relaxing. And I got a lot of inspiration for our kitchen from her kitchen! She can make a piece of furniture come to life with her milk paint. It’s amazing. Another thing I admire about her blog is… photography skills. I just use a point and shoot camera. She uses a DSLR, which is a lot different; however, she invested a lot of time into learning how to be a better photographer and it really shows on her blog.
Isn’t she adorable?! This is Emily A. Clark, y’all! She is a mother of five (yes, 5!!!) and still finds time to blog. I’m amazed! There are so many wonderful qualities about her. First off, she can make something from a thrift store look DANG good. She basically furnished most of her house from second-hand/thrift store finds… and I love that. You seriously need to hop on over to her blog to see how fab her house is. I feel like I could walk in and plop down on the couch.
Other than her home, there is something so unique about Emily. She is so honest and transparent with her audience. She reminds us that we don’t have to be perfect and that our homes don’t either. She just seems like such a grounded, Godly woman. And I love that about her!
So… this is Katie Bower and her adorable family. Her blog is awesome as well. I consider my blogging style to be a bit like hers. We like to make jokes and ramble. That may be why I’m drawn to her blog. She’s seems so down to earth. She’s from the south (like me) and I feel like if we met, we’d be good friends.
Her blog never ceases to amaze me. She can come up with some of the most interesting DIYs I’ve ever seen. She isn’t afraid to use power tools and get her hands dirty. She’s always honest and is good at making you feel good about yourself. I also love that she shares personal stuff too. It makes you feel like you REALLY know her. She even kicks butt when’s she pregnant, which I totally admire, and looks totally gorgeous while doing it!!!
I’ll let you take a guess at which one is Chris and which one is Julia 🙂 Okay, so this dynamic duo is so cute! Their home isn’t anything like ours, but I still love their style. I’ve been following them for a while and always find myself coming back for more. With two little girls, they seem to get a lot done.
I love their blog because they mix high with low. They splurge here and save there. I have that same philosophy. I mean, you get what you pay for, right?! Another neat thing about their blog is that they always ask for the reader’s opinion. I LOVE giving input so I enjoy that they include me. They also share the details- personal and blog related. That makes them seem so real… ya know?!
That’s Layla and Kevin from The Lettered Cottage. He doesn’t actually write blog posts, but plays a big part in this power couples success as bloggers. I find myself wanting to go to her blog, for more reasons than one. First off, she’s just so inspirational, motivational, and uplifting. She’s a God fearing woman and I absolutely love that about her.
They are in the process of adopting a toddler from Haiti. As a reader, sometimes I find myself waiting with bated breath to find out more adoption news. They’ve been going through the adoption process for a while now, like more than 18 months I know, and she’s always SO positive. It is definitely inspirational. And their house, it’s adorable. They live in a little community outside of Birmingham, Alabama and all the houses there are so adorable that you would almost think it wasn’t even real.
This is Thrifty Décor Chick, better known as Sarah. She’s so cool! Like many of my other favorites, she knows how to keep.it.real. She makes mistakes and she blogs about them! Her house is made up of Goodwill finds and lots of TJ Maxx. And if you know me, I love TJ Maxx, so I’m drawn to her house. I like how she gives good details on projects.
She’s never afraid to admit that she isn’t perfect or has been working on a project for far too long. And she also shows as she goes. What I mean by that is… she shows you every step of the process. She recently did a huge reno project by adding square footage to their living room. She took you step by step, never leaving anything out. Very honest and transparent. I love it! And she’s got a scrap wood pile the size of Texas hiding somewhere, because she can make the most incredible wood projects out of scrap wood!
Ok… promise me something. Promise me that you will at least head over to these blogs and check out a post or two. I might suggest that you just scroll through their blog feed, tour their home, read their “About” page, or look through their projects. My design personality isn’t exactly like any of these bloggers, yet they all still inspire me in one way or another. I don’t know any of these women personally and may never get a chance to meet them; however, they’ve already made an positive impact on my life by saying “it’s okay to follow your dreams.” And by starting this blog, I did just that. I hope that as you head to their blogs, you find yourself as inspired as I do!
