So… it’s been while since you’ve seen our living room, at least on the blog. I guess if you are a peeping tom you may have seen it by peeping in the windows. IF that’s the case, please don’t comment below. I really don’t want to know. 🙂
Anyways, in all seriousness, I think the last glimpse of the living room you got was back in September. This is where we originally started:
That couch wasn’t ours but the rest of the room was. And still is I guess. Then we had to tear out the built-ins because we just couldn’t work around them. Plus, we wanted them to go to the ceiling and to look a little different. J.C. hung some sheetrock and we were sitting pretty with this little view…
Then the contractors came (famous last words) and everything was taped, mudded, floated, sanded, etc., etc., etc. I never got a good picture of the fireplace end of the room but I did show you this one.
And after the contractors left, I got busy painting the house… the whole house… including the living room. This room is really a large room but it was super easy to paint because there aren’t a ton of weird or small walls. I like those types of rooms. 🙂
Want to see what it looks like now??!!
We used the same paint color throughout the main areas of our house, the ones that flow together. It’s in the laundry/mudroom, living room, kitchen/dining room, and hall. It’s Agreeable Gray from Sherwin Williams and I swear it looks different in each room and at different times of the day. It’s a little chameleon. I like it!
As you can see, the fan is still covered in plastic and one of the light fixtures is missing. I asked you guys (in this post) what you thought about four different options on lighting for our living room and guess what?! I don’t think we are going to use any of them. We’ve decided that this room will just have recessed lighting. We’ve never tackled a room with just recessed lighting, so wish us luck that we don’t screw everything up. I don’t want our living room ceiling to look like swiss cheese by the time it’s all over with. And the fan?! It’s actually a semi attractive fan that I don’t mind all that much. J.C. isn’t sure how he feels about the placement of it. We shall see 🙂
Here are a few more shots of this room…
I love love love how you can stand at the front door and see to the back door. SSOOO open and airy compared to what it used to be. And do you see how there isn’t any trim around the beams yet?! Yeah, that’s still sort of unfinished. We’ll get to it… eventually.
I’m so excited (per usual) about the potential of this room. We still need to do a lot of things for it to be “complete” but we will work towards that goal a little at a time. You are so supposed to eat an elephant one bite at a time, right?!
And in case you are wondering about our furniture place, here’s what we are thinking.
And all of that will be looking towards the fireplace (that’s begging for a makeover), which is also where the t.v. will be. And we still want to figure out some built-ins for each side of the fireplace. Just haven’t gotten around to that yet. Let’s just say that built-ins aren’t a priority right now. Moving back in?! That’s a priority. Building built-ins for a bunch of stuff we don’t own… not really.
As for furniture, I’m not a huge fan of leather and J.C. loves it so we can’t agree on ANYTHING! It’s not that I don’t like the look of leather, that’s fine… most of the time. It’s the cold factor. I’m extremely cold natured and I hate sitting down on a cold couch or chair. It’s just the pits. He wants leather because he says it will be easy to clean and last forever. I get that, I really do. We are planning on checking out some furniture stores in January. That’s when furniture is supposed to go on sale. Wish us luck!
There are a couple of things that I do have for this room, so that’s a plus, right?! We bought this table from World Market that will be an entry table:
It’s gorgeous and already put together! And I bought some bamboo blinds that were cut-to-fit at Lowe’s and those should be installed pretty soon. As for anything else, there’s not much else 🙂
I’m trying not to let the fact that we don’t have what we used to have (because our previous home burned) bother me. I just recently helped with a food drive and delivery and was kind of put in my place. The people we delivered to were extremely unfortunate and even though our house will basically be empty when we move back in, we HAVE way more than those people will ever have. We will have a nice, solid, updated house that has a roof that doesn’t leak and a functioning air conditioner and running water. That’s a whole lot to be thankful for, right?!
P.S. This will probably be the last time that I talk to you (on the blog at least) until after Christmas. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful, relaxing time. Make sure your make a seat at your dinner table for Jesus Christ the King!
