Some days, definitely not most, I’m glad we’ve had a little extra time to think about what we want in our home. At first, we were just going to slap sheetrock up in every room, but then I had a genius moment. Why not put some shiplap/tongue and groove/horizontal planking in a room? I asked you guys what you thought about it here and gave you our final decision here.
I could almost promise you that if we hadn’t had a little extra time to let things brew, we wouldn’t have made that choice. I shared my plans for our master bathroom here and here. Then I asked you guys if we should do two scones or a chandlier?! A few of you said that there were some scones you liked and some really liked the chandelier.
The more I looked at my moodboard for that room, the more I felt unsettled. This is the direction we were heading:
It was feeling a little… sterile?! I think that’s the word I’m looking for?! I told J.C., my husband, that I felt like we really needed some wood back there. Of course, the vanity is constructed of wood, but I meant stained wood. Or something that felt natural/nature inspired. Then I wrote a post about shopping for lights and it kind of hit me. I was BOUND AND DETERMINED to feature this light fixture somewhere in our home:
I couldn’t remember how much this beaute cost, so I headed on over to World Market’s website. It was originally $169.99 but they have it marked down to $135.99 until the end of the months… like 4 days from now. PLUS, I had a $10 coupon. The stars had aligned. It was a sign! I asked J.C. what he thought and he liked it. We decided to order it! I’m so excited.
Since I finally found some “wood” to go in our bathroom and I created a new moodboard. I’ll share some of the details to the new items I’ve added as well.
Well?!?!?! What do you think? I love it SO much more than what we had planned for before. Just for clarification purposes, the chandelier will hang over the tub.
The paint color is Peppercorn from Sherwin Williams. I’ve never gone with such a dark paint color in the past so I’m excited and nervous all at the same time. Just recently, I noticed that Myquillyn over at The Nester used it as an accent paint color in her master bedroom and it looks gorgeous.
Since I had chosen a natural element over the bathtub, which will be at one end of the room, I figured I needed to tie it to the other end of the room. Cohesion is key. It doesn’t have to match, it just needs to go…. but it this case it kind of matches. Enter this lovely mirror from Shades of Light:
It’s only $169 and I think it will look fabulous on the dark peppercorn walls and really round out the area above our white vanity. Those brushed nickel pendant lights that are in the moodboard will hang on each side of the mirror. Want it look SO good?! I haven’t ordered the mirror yet, but plan on doing so.
I thought about doing a DIY version of this mirror for 2.2 seconds but then had visions of poking my eyes out with a toothpick. So, I changed my mind. And I thought I mention that this very mirror was featured in John and Sherry’s Showhouse in the master bathroom. They look SO great and added a lot of character and texture to the space.
Last but not least, I threw a little vanity in the mix.
Across from our sink vanity will be a very “empty” space, which would be a perfect place for me to get ready in the mornings. There are a LOT of makeup vanities that I don’t care for; however, when I saw this one I thought it was adorable and kind of girly. It’s from Urban Outfitters and very reasonably priced. It has a gold finish and I’m not crazy about the mirror, but it’s not a big deal because it doesn’t come attached. I might change my mind if I saw it in person?! I’m not 100% sure we are ordering this piece. I might find something second hand that I love even more, but it gave me some inspiration.
One more picture that I wanted to show you guys that wasn’t on the moodboard is this one…
Is that door not TOO MUCH? I just recently discovered the work of Holly Mathis and found this photo… I couldn’t resist using it as major inspiration! For more photos of this lovely home, click here. Needless to say, I changed my mind on what kind of door I want to use as a sliding door between our master bedroom and master bath. I want to find an old one, not one like I had chosen in the first moodboard. I think I want it to have some glass to let the natural light shine through, but I’m not sure if we will like being able to see a toilet from our bed?!? If we wanted natural light, we could always just open the door. What a genius idea, huh?!
Well ladies and gents, that about sums it up. What do you think of the new and improved ideas? Did you like the other moodboard more than the new one? Leave me a comment below!
