Shut the Front Door

Well folks, it happened. A couple of weeks ago when the contractors were working at the house, they installed our new front door.  Remember when I showed you our plans for the front door?  If you missed it (or just need a refresher), click here.

First off, I’m not showing you the after picture… not just yet.  That would be too fun for you and not enough fun for me.  I’m going to make you sweat a little.

Actually, I just wanted to brag a little bit.  We special ordered the Steve and Sons Craftsman 9 Lite Stained Knotty Alder Wood Entry Door from Home Depot.  Shew, that was a mouthful.  Less than 2 weeks after I hit the “purchase” button, the door was discontinued.  Why on God’s green earth they would discontinue such a gorgeous door I don’t know?!  We ordered it just in time… it was meant to be (and when you see it, you will definitely agree).

I received an email letting me know that the door had arrived at Home Depot.  We had to pick up a lot of other supplies, so we just made one big haul.  I didn’t know what to expect from Home Depot, but was pleasently surprised.  I was nervous about hauling the door on the trailor.  I could just picture in my mind all of the glass breaking on the way home… and then lots of crying.

We marched in at around 9:30pm and hit the front desk.  Sorry HD!  We had to head down there after work, so we pretty much shut the joint down.  Most stores are mad and act rude when you come in late, but HD was very courteous.  I gave them my order number, we picked up a few other things, and headed to the checkout.

I could see it coming.  The door had a wooden frame that was built around it, just for this door.  It was the size of Texas ya’ll!  I felt so much better about the hauling situation.  The guys helped J.C. load it with the fork lift and we brought her home.  Oh and by the way, she (the door) made it home safe and sound… and all before her curfew.  Thanks Home Depot.

So, you still sweating to see it?  Ok, I’ll let you see it now 🙂

One word- WOW!  J.C. and I both love it.  It literally “makes” the front of the house.  He was all like “why didn’t you get one just like it for the back door?”  Uhm honey… did you notice the hefty price tag?  Money doesn’t grow on trees.  Oh and don’t mind the insulation on the front porch… or the blue cover on the threshold (we’re leaving it until all the work is done).  And don’t even get me started on the lights.  Need to get on that ASAP!  I’m using the same ones that I have picked out for the patio, just a smaller version.  Just in case you are wondering what the old front door looked like…

And the new one again… just so you don’t have to scroll up.

So, what do you think?  Do you like it?  I sure hope so, because she’s here to stay.  Next time you come over, could you please come through the front door?  Then, shut the front door before you let Scooter out!  I’ll give you a glass a sweet tea!  Leave me a comment below and tell me if you HAVE TO HAVE a new front door now!

P.S. This is not a paid post.  Home Depot did not ask me to say nice things about them.  We like to shop there and they are always nice to us.  The end.
